AS a thank you to members of our Manchester Confidential Hero scheme and the most loyal customers of our Privilege Gift Vouchers, we treated them to a slap-up three-course meal at Per Tutti last week.
Enjoying a welcome drink in the Aperitivo bar, our fifteen Heroes and their friends then joined us in the large private dining room downstairs at the family-run favourite. It’s such a friendly place, with great service and even an introduction to the menu for the evening from the executive chef Phil Whitehead – tearing himself away from an ultra-busy kitchen!
Perfect, then, for this get-together of like-minded food and drink lovers, who quickly got chatting around the three long tables and happily exchanged stories as the evening unfolded. The chalkboard above the bar said “Welcome to Per Tutti – our Heroes” and after a thank you from the organisers, our starter arrived.
Mackerel three ways was full of fresh flavours – a peppery horseradish-edged pâté sandwiched between delicate Melba toasts; an Oriental-style fillet with heat-filled chillies, and thinly sliced and pickled fish and vegetables. Lots of contrast on one plate, but all perfect for the summer months.
For the main course, a melt-in-the-mouth slow-braised ox cheek was teamed with rich jus, creamy truffle mash and just-right green beans. Like sophisticated comfort food – hearty and light all at the same time! The vegetarian alternative was equally tasty – a substantial goats cheese and mushroom wellington, with delicious flaky pastry.
Dessert came in the form of sticky toffee pudding with homemade milk ice cream melting into the caramel sauce. Yum!
