Charity starts at HOME this Christmas, with a live choir dining event
2017 has been HOME's year - starting off the year with a humble supper-club at the New Ellington throughout February, going on to become the city's most talked-about new opening by Autumn, picking up a handful of national restaurant critic reviews in the first few months, as well as being shortlisted for several Oliver Awards. For the restaurant's first Christmas, they're giving something back.
Like the restaurant itself, Sing For Your Supper started life as something in owner Elizabeth Cottam's own home. “Each December I would invite a group of friends around to my house along with the local church choir; we’d stand around the tree singing carols and I would cook for everyone; I would have a whip round at the end and all the money would be donated it to various causes,”
“Now Mark and I have the restaurant I want to open the event to the whole of Yorkshire and use our excellent reputation to help promote this wonderful charity."
So on Tuesday 12 December, St Paul's Church Choir of Drighlington will join the team at HOME and lead a carol singalong for up to 60 guests, followed by a festive feast cooked by Liz, Mark Owens, and their team.
Tickets cost £42, which is the exact amount it costs Action Against Hunger to save the life of one malnourished child by providing 42 days worth of life-saving therapeutic food, and HOME is donating the full amount to the charity.
“When I learnt how little it costs to save a child I knew I had to do something to help save children. I think it goes without saying that I want a full house – the more people that buy tickets – the more lives we’ll be saving,"
